R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Animals

From Dave Brigham:

Quick, what do novelist/playwright George Bernard Shaw, international man of peace Gandhi, 1960's French movie star Brigitte Bardot, Goth television personality Elvira, novelist and humorist Mark Twain and member of the band Wings Linda McCartney have in common? They were (or, in Elvira's case, are) animal lovers! And they all appear on the mural below in East Cambridge, Mass.

This mural by Be Sargent dates to 1999 and adorns the side of the Cambridge Antiques Market on Monsignor O'Brien Highway. Called A Wall of Respect for Animals, the painting, which is sponsored by various animal rights and anti-vivisection groups, features the likenesses of 29 animal lovers. In addition to those mentioned above, folks on the wall include the late gorilla expert Dian Fossey, novelist and poet Alice Walker, the late poet and novelist Victor Hugo, the late actress and singer Doris Day, "The Price Is Right" kingpin Bob Barker, TV "star" ALF (Allegedly. Zoom in and tell me that's Alien Life Form over Bob Barker's shoulder, holding a dog. Looks more like the Unabomber.) and the very dead Greek philosopher Pythagoras.
